York have just completed a HUGE installation at Coventry RFCs new purpose training ground at Woodlands School, Coventry. The Performance Install consisted of 3 x STS Multifunction Racks, 4 x 8ft x 8ft Olympic Lifting Platforms, 1 x STS Power Rack, 1 x STS Power Cage, 2 x Olympic Bench Press, 2 x York Prone Pull Benches, 1 x STS Cable Crossover, 1 x STS 300lb Lat Pull Down Machine, 3 x STS Flat-Incline Benches and York Pro-Medial Dumbells from 12.5-50kg. York are working very closely with Coventry Rugby Club, to help them nuture and produce the next generation of Local Professional Rugby Players. Northampton Saints have beaten Bourgoin in the European Challenge Cup Final to gain a place in the senior tournament next season. With Northampton winning it also means Anglo/French team Brive, who have recalled Engalnd Hooker Steve Thompson and England Fly Half Andy Goode,have also qualified for for Europe and London Wasps will have to settle with playing in the Challenge Cup. In a Very hard fought match with plenty of penalties being conceded by Bourgoin, Stephen Myler slotted 5 from 5 kicks to give Northampton a 15-3 winning margin. The game was marred by the site of Bourgoin number 8 throwing malicous punches at Saints second row Courtney Lawes. From all of us at York WELL DONE LADS!!!!

Northampton Saints are Playing tonight in the European Challenge Cup final (Uefa cup for rugby) Northampton have had a 3 week break since their last game, where as Bourgoin have played the last 3 weeks in a bit to secure their Top 14 Position. Bourgoin are renowned for their heavy handed approach up front, with bruising fowards and a Half Back pairing any club would be happy to have. Northampton have England Hooker Dylan Hartley and British Lions Tight Head Prop Euan Murray packing down to nullify Bourgoins main threat. On a sad note, it will also be Scotland,Lions & Saints Legend Tom Smiths Last profesional game of rugby, before he hangs his boots up for his well earned retirement. The final day included Log Press followed by the Tyre Flip then the Atlas Stones (sponsored by York Fitness) and then to finish them off the back to back pull. Dave Meer won the event by 1/2 a point. The Strongman event was watched throughout the final day by current British Strongest Man Jimmy Marku and Worlds Strongest Man Mariusz Pudzianowski. Northampton Saints seemed to have won the game with their first half performance, missing out on severaltry scoring opportunities, but a spirited come back by Saracens made the game come alive inthe second half. This seemed to coinside with the introduction of Andy Farrell and Hugh Vyvian. The game looked set for extra time, but a beautiful constructed drive up-field by the Northampton Saints allowed Stephen Myler to strike a sweet drop goal to take the Saints into a 16-13 Lead. Northampton will face either Bourgoin or fellow midlanders Worcester in the final.

2 Teams who have York STS Commercial installs, go head to head in the European Challenge Cup Semi Final tonight. Both teams have had an average season and this is the only opportunity they have to qualify for next years Heineken European Cup, by winning the Challenge Cup. Saints have put out a strong team and have experience on the bench to bring on if needed. Saracens have been consistent all year with results being won and lost by only a few points, they have Rugby League legend Andy Farrell on the bench possibly playing in his last match before hanging up his boots, unless they win. On Sunday 1st March, The York Fitness Commercial Centre opened its doors to the next Generation of rugby players. A basic Olympic Lifting Course Directed by Glen Thurgood & Peter Theirney was given to the Young Athletes. The Course was a huge sucess with many of the young rugby players, having never lifted before, doing 75% of the Full Clean lift within 1 hour. They started with Broom Sticks to get the basic technique, then moved onto using the York 7kg Aluminium Training Bar. The progression there was to add weight in the form of the York 5kg Solid Rubber Plates. Glen Thurgood:" The key to this lifting day is not to lift heavy, but to allow the players to gain a better understanding of how a lift is performed properly..Technique is the number one goal"

Northampton Saints won in a thrilling game at Franklins Gardens on Saturday. Northampton were losing 6-13 at Half time and it was thought a drubbing might be on the horizon, but a hearty second half from Northampton inspired by Jon Clarke stopped this happening. In front of a crowd of 13,349 Northampton showed why they should be in the Premiership. Final Score was Northampton Saints 23-13 Harlequins Man of the Match was Scotlands powerhouse Euan Murray

Northampton Saints and Harlequins who have both had York installations and are set to go head to head this Saturday at Franklins Gardens. It should be a good test for the local team (Northampton) as they have been going well in Europe topping their pool with a maximum 20 points. Harlequins are coming off the sucess of back to back victories against Top 14 team Stade Francais in the last fortnight. BBE Sponsored athlete and Bejing Olympic Bronze medalist Darren Sutherland made light work of this first professional bout by stopping his Bulgarian Georgi IIliev in the First round last night in Dublin Also on the bill was Rendall Munroe who won his 3rd defence of his European Super-Bantamweight fight. He day job is a Binman in Leicester and he certainly threw the trash out last night, by making easy work of Italys Fabrizio Trotta in the fifth round of their contest. All fighters on the undercard of the main bill were wearing the BBE Championship Gloves.

Boxer Graham Earl has recently opened a boxing gym so he can pass on his knowledge gained from the ring to other young hopefuls. BBE Boxing has always has strong ties with Graham throughout his career so it was an honour to be asked to supply and spec his new boxing gym in Luton. Brive Rugby Club who play in the French Top 14 Championship have entrusted York Fitness to design and supply a performance gym for gaining much needed pounds of power for the new upcoming season. The links are strong with BRIVE Rugby as the former Northampton Saints Strength and Conditioning coach, Tim Exeter is now at Brive along with Steve Thompson, Ben Cohen and Andy Goode.
